There are so many conflicts great and small... Many books have been written on how they come to pass, but that hasn't kept them from continuing. In the end, I think that most of them boil down to people trying to force their opinion on someone else, rather than opening up for discussion.
But even hatred can teach you something. If nothing else, it can show you what not to be like, and how not to treat people.
