[ idk if it's really a wonderful job because to her it feels like a super shitty one!! sometimes. it's mostly rage that has kept her going and killing the machines.
protecting humans is just a bonus now. ]
No, not exactly. However, if a human was in danger, I would act to protect them.
Honestly, I try to do the same. Maybe part of it is just cowardice, really [a statement he doesn't explain just yet] but it feels good to help where I can.
Not that I've done a lot of it here. This place seems to be very peaceful.
[A slightly awkward smile, even though he can't exactly know what's easy for an android to understand and what might be a lot harder. Maybe he's just trying to soften the blow of telling his story, in the end - for himself more than her.]
For almost all of my life, I've been told that I shouldn't exist; that the world would be better off if I was dead. So far, saving people is the only thing that has made me feel otherwise.
It's a lot easier to believe that other people have a right to exist than it is to believe I do.
I didn't know there were different levels of helping which mattered.
[ She shrugs, it isn't a big deal to her though. Listening to his words carefully, she hums in thought. ] I know that the history of humans is full of war, but I could never understand the reasoning for people hating each other like this.
[Even if he's not sure he can wholeheartedly disagree with the Headmaster's opinion of him yet, he can certainly agree that hatred in general is too widespread and far too destructive.]
There are so many conflicts great and small... Many books have been written on how they come to pass, but that hasn't kept them from continuing. In the end, I think that most of them boil down to people trying to force their opinion on someone else, rather than opening up for discussion.
But even hatred can teach you something. If nothing else, it can show you what not to be like, and how not to treat people.
It does feel like it's impossible to stop fighting. The war I've been in or was apart of has been going on for ... years ... I think it's reached up to the 14th Machine War now. [ she runs a hand through her hair. it's quite depressing when one thinks about it. ]
I don't know if my words matter, but I think you deserve to live. Only people who hurt others, destroy and take their lives and betray them shouldn't be allowed.
[Not that Atsushi knows what a Machine War is like, exactly, but every war is one too many. There's only been one big one in his world, in recent years, and thankfully that was before his time. (The war on the Guild doesn't really count, terrible as it was. In the end, that was just one organization against the other.)]
Thank you. [It may be hard to believe, but it's still very sweet of her to say so, and it brightens his mood.] But I think even people like that deserve a second chance. Sometimes people have just ended up in a bad situation.
There aren't a lot of people who are beyond redemption, probably... [He can only think of one - and even that guy may yet find another way. Atsushi will keep hoping against hope.]
[ she pushes her brows together, confused as to why he would say that. ] How can someone accidentally kill another person though? It doesn't feel like you can pull a trigger and it wouldn't be on purpose.
[ same with using a sword or any other weapon from what she understands.
Even if it's on purpose, people can have all sorts of reasons for doing terrible things. Sometimes they think they have nowhere to belong except with the organization doing the terrible things, and if they don't do what's expected of them, they'll be cast out. Sometimes people do terrible things because they truly believe it's for the better - for the world, or even for the person they're doing those terrible things to.
[He pauses, briefly. It's obvious that this topic is kind of personal in some way or other - and possibly multiple ways.]
That doesn't mean that the people doing these terrible things aren't still wrong, but everybody deserves a second chance.
I'm afraid I'm going to need to disagree with you. Some deserve a second chance, but not all. [ It feels weird for her to tell a human that they're wrong or at least they are from her point of view. Hell, it actually makes her feel a little uncomfortable and it shows on her face.
She supposes it's because in a sense, humans are her 'masters'. But, knowing that she is able to disagree with them also makes her feel like maybe people are right --
[Always sensitive to the atmosphere, Atsushi definitely notices that something's wrong, though he can't quite tell what or why. For all he knows, it's because she's thinking of someone in specific that she can't agree with him... and he can't judge her for that. He's still not sure he could have given the headmaster a second chance. No - he's pretty sure he couldn't have.
But that doesn't mean his opinion has changed.]
I know it's hard to feel that way sometimes. I'm not sure I could give everyone a second chance, myself.
But the thing is: if you refuse to give people a second chance, nothing will ever change. If you reject them before even giving them a chance to do better... they'll never do better for sure.
[ Just like an animal can't be anything more than an animal and then herself -- she's an android, just a piece of machinery and having emotions doesn't change that. ]
It's quite interesting that you think that way though, I will admit to that.
That's true - but maybe a monster isn't what we thought a monster was.
[He gives her a little smile, almost shy. He knows that she's right. Maybe he just doesn't want her to be. Everyone needs a chance to prove themselves worthy - including himself.]
But I'm flattered you feel that way~
Can I ask: as an android, do you need to eat and drink, or is there some other way you get energy?
intro #2 - atsushi.
Correct, I'm an YoHRa Android. I was created, not born. [ and of course not human either.
he can touch and poke her and she will feel as human as he is.]
no subject
You certainly don't look like one... [He's definitely not touching her to check, though, wow! What kind of guy do you take him for?!]
no subject
That is the point, I've been made to look human given it's my job to protect them. [ which means she'll be protecting you, atsushi!
So she won't hurt him.
Much. ]
no subject
Ehhh... [He may not touch her, but he does move around a bit to study her from every angle, as if he's expecting to find a charger cable somewhere.]
That's a wonderful job, though! Are you doing the same kind of work here?

[ A topic that can go in circles if they allow it so the subject change is a welcomed one. Unfortunately, it's one that she gets asked a lot.
